He has recently completed a long term support position with Danida working in the Forestry and Beekeeping Division, Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism in Tanzania as Participatory Forest Management (PFM) Adviser, where he advised on the scaling up of PFM within 61 districts across Tanzania through national and local government institutions.
Based in the UK, he now provides short term consultancy inputs to a range of governmental and NGO clients in the forestry and natural resources sector, and among other tasks, continues to support the Tanzanian forestry programme.
Prior to coming to Tanzania, he worked with CARE Uganda, where he developed and supervised a multi-donor program, focusing on building the capacity of rural households in 10 districts across south-western Uganda to more effectively and equitably manage natural resources. This necessitated the development of co-management agreements between local people and national institutions such as Uganda Wildlife Authority and the Department for Fisheries Resources. While in Uganda, Mr Blomley was a Trustee of a USD 8 million, multi-donor Conservation Trust Fund, operating around Bwindi and M’gahinga National Parks.
Tom speaks English, Danish, French and Kiswahili and has experience from 15 countries in Africa, Latin America and Asia. He holds a masters degree from Edinburgh University in Natural Resource Management. |
